Willow coffins are also known as basket coffins or
wicker coffins. They have become popular again lately
but are by no means a new idea. In the late 19th
century Sir Frances Haden developed wicker coffins.
His design had no lid and was to be filled with
flowers or earth for natural burial.
We have a number of different styles and colours of
willow coffin available. Some are available to anyone
in the UK to buy now with quick delivery. We
have an even large selection available if we are your
chosen funeral director. In terms of shape they tend
to be either traditional coffin shaped (angular and
tapered) or they have round ends. Some also have
slightly domed lids. Willow coffins also have a
variety of shapes of handles. Some coffins can even
have a band of a bright colour.
Some of these beautiful wicker coffins are hand
crafted by co-operative of cottage industries in
Poland. Some are woven in Somerset.
They are a popular choice for woodland burial as they
are entirely bio-degradeable and from a sustainable
resource.
Other eco coffins available include coffins made from bamboo, pandanus, cardboard, seagrass, papier mache, woven banana leaf, woven hyasinth and jute.
All our eco-coffins are suitable for traditional or green burial or green cremation.
We can sell you an individual coffin and aim to have it delivered to you or your funeral director the following day (UK). Call us on 0161 969 6690 for more details.
